Celebrating 20 years of Thrivent Asset Allocation Funds

06/24/2025

Two decades of strong performance through market cycles

06/24/2025

Since their launch on June 30, 2005, Thrivent Asset Allocation Funds have delivered long-term results—navigating both bull and bear markets with discipline and resilience. Built to help financial professionals and their clients pursue long-term goals, these funds are designed with strategic asset allocation at their core. The Funds originally launched with four flagship products and two new asset allocation products were added in 2025.

We're celebrating 20 years of strong fund performance, innovation, and growth for the flagship products. The suite of Funds has now grown to more than $13.4 billion in assets under management as of March 31, 2025.

A legacy of leadership and innovation

From the beginning, Thrivent Asset Allocation Funds have been guided by experienced portfolio managers and a commitment to evolving with the markets. Here’s a look at key milestones:

Timeline of excellence

  • Class I- and A-Share asset allocation funds launched June 30th, 2005. Russ Swansen, David Francis and Mark Simenstad are the original portfolio management team.

2009

  • The Funds move away from a fund-of-funds structure to a more flexible structure allowing for sleeves, core funds, and derivatives.

2015

  •  Celebrating their 10-year anniversary, the Funds reached $5.2B in assets.

2016-2019

  • In 2016, I-share class funds reclassified as S-share class funds.
  • Fund leadership changed with Steve Lowe, David Royal and David Spangler joining as portfolio managers.

2024

  • Certain funds began making a small allocation to private equity as an asset class, with the objective of providing enhanced diversification and the potential for better returns.
